“MAKE IN INDIA”- A BOOST TO THE MANUFACTURING SECTOR

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi, prior to the commencement of his maiden US visit, last month launched ‘Make in India’, a major national initiative which focuses on making India a global manufacturing hub. Key thrust of the programme would be on cutting down in delays in manufacturing projects clearance, develop adequate infrastructure and make it easier for companies to do business in India. The 25 key sectors identified under the programme include automobiles, auto components, bio-technology, chemicals, defence manufacturing, electronic systems, food processing, leather, mining, oil & gas, ports, railways, ports and textile.

List of Prohibited Drugs in India

Drugs Prohibited/ Suspended in India
The Government has suspended the manufacture for sale, sale and distribution of following drugs in 2013 as the use of these drugs was likely to involve risk to the human health:
1. Dextropropoxyphene and formulations containing Dextropropoxyphene for human use.

2. Analgin and all formulations containing analgin for human use.

3. Fixed Dose Combination of Flupenthixol+Melitracen for human use.

News Digest this week December

Madhya Pradesh witnessed the highest-ever voter turnout of over 70 percent and Mizoram more than 81 percent in the assembly polls.The previous high turn-out in MP was 69.58 percent in the 2008 assembly elections while it was 82.35 percent in Mizoram, For the first time in the country, a voter-verifiable paper audit trail system was tried in this election on a larger scale, in 10 constituencies.It was first experimented in Assembly bypoll election in Nagaland in September.

The Cabinet has extended limits on stocks of paddy and rice that traders can hold by one years to check hoarding and price rise.The objectives of control orders is to enable State Governments to continue to take effective de-hoarding operations under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 by fixing stock limits/licensing requirements etc. in respect of these commodities. The cabinet also approved exemption to exporters having IEC code issued by DGFT from the purview of Stock holding limits under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 with respect to edible oil seeds, edible oils and rice.This will help exporters benefit from economies of scale and bigger operations for optimally meeting export demands on along terms basis.

A Look on the Nobel Prize Winners 2013

Nobel Prize in Chemistry , Physics and Physiology or Medicine has been announced for 2013. The Prize in chemistry has been awarded jointly to Martin Karplus, Michael levitt and Arieh Warshel for the development of multi-scale models for complex chemical systems. The Prize in Physics has been jointly shared by Francois Englert and Peter W. Higgs for the theoretical discovery of a mechanism that contributes to our understanding of the origin of mass of subatomic particles.
In 1964, they proposed the theory independently of each. In 2012, their ideas were confirmed by the discovery of a so called Higgs particle at the CERN laboratory outside Geneva in Switzerland. The Prize in Physiology or Medicine has been jointly awarded to James E. Rothman, RandyW. Schekman and Thomas C. Sudhof for their discoveries of machinery regulating vesicle traffic, a major transport system in our cells.

About National Food Security Bill

Parliament passed the National Food Security Bill for ensuring food and nutritional security to the people. It gives right to the people to receive adequate quantity of food grains at affordable prices. Upto 75% of the rural population and upto 50% of the urban population will have uniform entitlement of 5kg food grains per month at highly subsidized prices of Rs.3, Rs. 2, Re. 1 per kg. for rice, wheat, coarse grains respectively. It will entitle about two thirds of our 1.2 billion population to subsidized foodgrain sunder the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS).

India bags Gold in Archery World Cup Stage 4 competition in Wroclaw, Poland.

India bagged a Gold medal in the Archery World Cup Stage 4 competition in Wroclaw, Poland yesterday. In the Women's Recurve Team final, the sixth seeded Indian team of Deepika Kumari, Laishram Bombayla Devi and Rimil Buriuly defeated the top seeded Korean team of Yun Ok-Hee, Ki Bo Bae, and Joo Hyun Jung, 219-215 to clinch the coveted yellow metal. Before setting up a final with heavy weights Korea, India had defeated Indonesia (217-216), Mexico (211-202) and Denmark (214-206).


This is the Indian trio's second successive Gold. They had brought laurels to the country in July this year, after winning the Stage 3 meet at Medellin, Colombia.

India to take on South Korea in 9th Men's Asia Cup hockey tournament at Malaysia, today.

South Korea will take on India while Bangladesh will meet Oman in the two Pool B matches of the 9th Men's Asia Cup hockey tournament at Ipoh in Malaysia today. Yesterday, Holders South Korea started their title defence with a resounding 8-0 win against Bangladesh in their first Pool B match. In the second Pool A match yesterday, Three-time champions Pakistan became the first team to qualify for the semifinals after defeating Malaysia 4-1.

Meanwhile, in an earlier Pool A match, Japan defeated Chinese Taipei 5-1 to register their first win in the tournament. In the opening match played on Saturday, India hammered Oman 8-NIL.

Indira Gandhi peace awards to Lula da Silva

President Pranab Mukherjee conferred the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development on former President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, at a function organized in New Delhi.

The President stated that this prestigious award celebrates the legacy of the former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi as an untiring crusader for global peace, universal disarmament and a new international economic order.

The prize has been awarded to Lula da Silva for his contribution to the cause of eliminating hunger and promoting inclusive growth in Brazil, for his advocacy of stronger ties among the developing economies and for his signal contribution to the cause of the India-Brazil partnership.

India's plans to set up a missile defence shield in Delhi in next two years moved a step further on Friday with the successful test-firing of an interceptor missile off the coast of Odisha.

As part of the exercise, it test-fired a supersonic interceptor missile which destroyed a 'hostile' ballistic missile off the Odisha coast on Friday.

17TH SAARC SUMMIT

The 17th South. Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Summit reached fruitful decisions after many discussions during the two day meeting held on November 10 and 11,2011 in Maldives. Its theme was "Building Bridges" - both in terms of  physical connectivity and figurative political dialogue.

SAARC member countries agreed to direct the SAFT A (South Asuab Free Trade Agreement) Ministerial Council to intensify efforts to reduce the sensitive list as well as reduce non-tariff barriers to  trade, Nasheed said in the closing address.

The world's biggest extra-terrestrial explorer, NASA's Curiosity rover, rocketed toward Mars on Saturday on a search for evidence that the red planet might once have been home to itsy-bitsy life.

It will take eight-and-a-half months for Curiosity to reach Mars following a journey of 354 million miles.
