Moser Baer energy Limited (MBCEL) has successfully commissioned the 30 MW solar farm at Gunthawada, District Banaskantha, Gujarat. It is the largest solar energy farm of Asia, built on 305 acres of land, using 2,36,000 thin film modules. The project will generate 52 million KWh energy per year, and will help save about 50,000 tonnes of carbon emission annually.

Gunthawada (Banaskantha), October 14, 2011: The Asia’s largest solar farm in District Banaskantha, Gujarat, set up by India’s largest solar developer Moser Baer Clean Energy Limited (MBCEL), was today inaugurated by Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Athithi vishesh such as Shri Nitinbhai Patel, State Water Supply & Urban Development Minister; Shri Fakirbhai Vaghela, State Social Justice & Empowerment Minister; Shri Parbatbhai Patel, Minister of State for Water Supply, Health & Family Welfare, Gujarat; Shri Liladharbhai Vaghela, Minister of State for Labor & Employment, Gujarat and Shri D. J. Pandian, Principal Secretary, Energy & Petrochemicals Department, Gujarat graced the occasion. The 30 MW solar farm has been set up with an investment of Rs. 465 crore and is generating approximately 1,50,000 units per day.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Deepak Puri, Chairman & Managing Director, Moser Baer India said, “Here, I have to acknowledge the momentum-providing support and initiative by the Gujarat State Government under the capable leadership of the Hon’ble Chief Minister for envisioning Solar Energy projects as a financially viable, socially prosperous, and environmentally safe way of boosting the State’s economy. Before going any further, I must congratulate the Hon’ble CM and the Gujarat State Government for completing 10 years of excellence in governance.”
Hailing Gujarat policy initiative for tapping its potential for solar energy and the promptness on part of the administration for speedy implementation of the project, Shri Ratul Puri, Chairman of Moser Baer Projects (MBPPL), the parent company of MBCEL, said, “Commissioning of this 30 MW solar farm signals arrival of large scale solar farms in India. We shall have 100 MW operational capacity by end of October and plan to install more than 5GW by 2020”
