A Look on the Nobel Prize Winners 2013
Nobel Prize in Chemistry , Physics and Physiology or Medicine has been announced for 2013. The Prize in chemistry has been awarded jointly to Martin Karplus, Michael levitt and Arieh Warshel for the development of multi-scale models for complex chemical systems. The Prize in Physics has been jointly shared by Francois Englert and Peter W. Higgs for the theoretical discovery of a mechanism that contributes to our understanding of the origin of mass of subatomic particles.
In 1964, they proposed the theory independently of each. In 2012, their ideas were confirmed by the discovery of a so called Higgs particle at the CERN laboratory outside Geneva in Switzerland. The Prize in Physiology or Medicine has been jointly awarded to James E. Rothman, RandyW. Schekman and Thomas C. Sudhof for their discoveries of machinery regulating vesicle traffic, a major transport system in our cells.
